While preparing the horn arrangements for this soulful, instrumental hip-hop-influenced jazz single, flugelhorn and trumpet player Bo Rande (Mames Babegenush) suggested to call his brother Lukas to play the top voice on flute and the lower voices on sax. A little confused, Jiyu-producer & guitar player Emil Jonathan Søegaard (Low Pressure/ EMO) turned to him, “look, I’ve known you for more than 20 years, and you never told me you had a brother!.., here we are, almost done recording a full length album, and you’re telling me now?” -Well, it turned out that, in contrast to the 5.000 years old bristlecone pine trees growing in the White Mountains of California, or the glow from a giant star explosion, that traveled 13 billion years before captured by the “Very Large Telescope” in Chile, saxophone and flute player Lukas Rande (Mames Babegenush) entered Jiyu’s studio very quickly – just in time for the recording session and freshly brewed coffee.
The full length album by the adventurous jazz-hybrid collective Jiyu is out in spring – stay tuned!
